Keeping it fresh: Top five summer foods to grill

BBQ season is here! Make grilling healthy this year with these delicious foods.

ZUCCHINI

Rich in vitamins A, B, and C, and magnesium and omega-3 fatty acids. With only 19 calories per cup, this healthy green makes for a great side dish on the grill. Try adding it to your chicken and fish meals, or grill and add to a salad.

SHRIMP

Loaded with protein, vitamin D, and zinc. Shrimp makes for a great meal! You can cook it many ways. It’s low in calories (160 per one cup, which is about 12 shrimp) and is considered a low-carb delight. Try keeping it simple, though, to stay away from unneeded calories. Fresh lemon juice and oregano go a long way before grilling.

A summer staple! Keep it simple and add a little lime juice and chili powder. Plus, the leftovers make for a great addition to a salad. This low-calorie veggie only contains 58 calories per ear.

PEACHES

Move over pineapple, there is a new fruit on the grill! Peaches are high in vitamins A and C, and only contain about 70 calories per 6 oz. Simply add a little honey and you’ll be set!

CHICKEN

Everyone loves chicken, and it is very versatile. You can grill it up any way you like! It can be served as an appetizer, on kebabs, or whole. Chicken is a great source of protein and one chicken breast (boneless and skinless) contains approximately 260 calories. Spice things up on the grill and rub your chicken with lemon juice and pesto.
